The Halloween weekend saw our very first family film festival at the Pillbox in Bethnal Green. We had a fantastic time creating a unique immersive multimedia scare experience, and we want to thank everybody who contributed, supported or came to see Dr Hydenshriek’s Laboratory. We were so passionate about bringing short film and young people closer together, which was made possible by everybody who helped to support the event in whatever way they could.

We had so much fantastic feedback about the event from children, teenagers, adults, staff and peers from the industry. We asked young audience members what their favourite part of Dr Hydenshriek’s Laboratory was, with an array of varying responses, including “using that camera thing!” and “seeing the Zombie shaking on the floor!” Mature audience members were also positive about the event, stating that it was “wonderful! So amazing to have something combining film and performance so well, especially for young people. Loved the set and all the moving around rooms”.
So many people contributed to make the event as successful as possible. We’d like to thank all of our cast and crew for working so hard over the weekend, with a special shout out to our Designer, Anna Driftmier, and our Stage Manager, Dan Ramsden.
Thank you to Film Hub London and Tower Hamlets Arts and Event for the funding that they provided to enable the event to go ahead. We’d also like to thank all of our contributors who supported the development of the event: Elaine Ball, Glenn Pollard, Sion Williams, Margaret Farrell, John Bamford, Stephen Coltrane, Angela Bamford, Simon Pollard and Sam Jemmett…and all of those mysterious anonymous donors!
Also, a massive thank you to members of our StartUps crews, for volunteering some of their half term to help us stage this event!
This has been a unique and eye-opening journey for everybody at Studio Film School, and we are so thankful to have been given the opportunity to create an authentic and special event such as this. We’ve already received audience interest in another immersive event in the future – although there’s nothing in the diary as of yet, this is something that we are definitely open to as we have enjoyed every minute.
Once again, thank you to everybody who came and watched/supported the event, you’re all wonderful.
