Notes from the Set

Last month we were really pleased to be asked to invite members of our teenage filmmaking crew Studio Start Ups to work as runners on On The Train Production’s The Ditch.

Our runners fully embraced the experience and we enjoyed watching them getting stuck in.

Harry was asked to make his most realistic looking whiskey armed with an array of tea bags and instant coffee, Hudson found himself arranging leaves to ‘dress’ a ditch and Anthony took it nice and easy with a lie down on set to help the camera and lighting team find the perfect look for the next shot. All of the runners were praised for their enthusiasm and we even caught the focus puller recruiting some of them for her next project!

Sheena Holliday, a member of the Studio Film School staff and the director of the Ditch said “I was really pleased to be able to give the Studio Start Ups the chance to work on my film The Ditch. I wanted to give them the experience of what a film set is actually like. I know that I would have really appreciated that opportunity when I was dreaming of becoming a filmmaker.

It was completely brilliant to have them on my set. They were all excellent runners, and completed all of the tasks they were set enthusiastically. They were genuinely all great members of the team.

The Ditch is a short horror thriller that I wrote and directed. We are editing the film this summer and hope to start submitting it into festivals in September. Follow us on twitter @OnTheTrainProds for updates on our progress.”

Studio Start Ups is a filmmaking crew that meets every Saturday afternoon to work on their own short film projects and is a natural progression for members of our younger Saturday Film Shoot crew as well as ideal for anyone aged 14-19 who wants an insight into filmmaking.
