Happy New Year!
We are back for another season of the Saturday Film Shoots, and what an exciting morning it’s been! This term, we’re celebrating ‘Awards Season’ and looking to the ‘Best of the Best’ for inspiration as we explore films that have won Best Film or Best Picture Awards at the BAFTAs or the Oscars. We’re looking forward to sessions that visit contemporary classics and some well-loved favourites from yesteryear as inspiration for our young crew members to produce their own best work.
And the Winner is…!
So far this term, we’ve looked at:
The Artist, written and directed by Michel Hazanavicius, and won both the Best Motion Picture of the Year Academy Award and the Best Film BAFTA in 2011.
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the Kings, directed by Peter Jackson, which won the Best Picture Academy Award and Best Film BAFTA in 2004.
Slumdog Millionaire, directed by Danny Boyle, and won the Best Motion Picture of the Year Academy Award and the Best Film BAFTA in 2009.
Forrest Gump, directed by Robert Zemeckis, won the Best Picture Academy Award in 1995.
And that’s just for starters. There are so many great films on the list of previous winners – we’ve even made a resolution as a team to try and watch as many of the films we haven’t seen before as we can. We’re sure that this term will hold some exciting adventures as we create lots of new films in response. The full lists are available at http://oscar.go.com/oscar-history/year/2013 and http://awards.bafta.org/explore, why not take a look for yourself and see how many you’ve never seen before!
